Simply put, a honeycomb pleated blind is a so-called double pleated blind, as it is two pleated blind fabrics hanging one behind the other. Of course, the manufacturing process for honeycomb pleated fabrics is actually much more complex (and rightly so): for example, the two pleated fabrics are also welded together in a special way, creating the honeycomb cell shape that can be seen from the side view. The front "pleated fabric" also differs in shape and color from the rear "pleated fabric". Although a honeycomb pleated blind has a lot in common with a conventional pleated blind, it differs significantly in terms of performance.

The biggest difference between a honeycomb pleated blind and a pleated blind, which is immediately recognizable at first glance, is the shape of the fabric. A honeycomb pleated blind has a double layer of fabric, which from the side looks like a row of stacked hexagons (different: honeycombs, from honeycombs or beehives). In contrast, a pleated blind looks like a zig-zag pattern from the side. This visual difference is clearly reflected in a difference in performance.

Our honeycomb structures are designed not to let light through at a light intensity of 30,000 lux. The light intensity in normal daylight is generally below this value, e.g. a light intensity of less than 10,000 lux is achieved in winter when the sky is overcast and about 20,000 lux in summer when the sky is overcast. In unfiltered, direct sunlight, the luminous intensity can exceed 30,000 lux. In such cases, some light may shine very weakly through the fabric at the points where the honeycomb cells are glued together. The light then shines diffusely through the fabric at these points and has only a very low light intensity. Even in such cases, the blackout performance of the honeycomb fabric is > 99%.

Cleaning and caring for honeycomb pleated blinds is not too different from cleaning normal pleated blinds. Design variety: If you are looking for a window decoration, the very wide range of colors and patterns of pleated blinds also offers a greater choice than honeycomb pleated blinds. Care: Neither can simply be thrown into the washing machine, but with honeycomb pleated blinds the cells also have to be dusted on the inside, so this point goes to the simple pleated blind by a narrow margin. Pleated blind darkening: Whether a pleated blind or honeycomb pleated blind darkens better depends on the fabric used, because a completely opaque pleated blind darkens just as well as a completely opaque honeycomb pleated blind. That depends on the fixing method. If you choose a pleated blind without drilling with a clamp, you can cover the entire window glass plus an overhang on all sides. If you choose a pleated blind with adhesive holder or a honeycomb pleated blind with drilling, which is mounted in the glazing bead, then the pleated blind is mounted closer to the window glass and covers the glass surface. We manufacture our pleated blinds in the finished size ordered. The width ordered (e.g. 80 cm) corresponds to the actual width of the pleated blind. The height is the total height of the pleated blind. The tension cords are adjusted to the ordered height.

A pleated blind is closed every evening, opened again in the morning and adjusted to the desired position. This makes it one of the most frequently moved pleated blinds. For a pleated blind that is operated frequently, a particularly firm and stable fixing is very important. For this reason, we recommend our particularly sturdy premium clamp bracket "For tightening" for pleated blinds without drilling. This clamp can be tightened again and again with the supplied wrench if it has become loose over time due to frequent use. However, the firmest, most stable and most permanent way of attaching a pleated blind to a window is always to screw it in, although this requires drilling. For pleated blinds with drilling, we offer two screw fixing options: with mounting plates in the glazing bead or with angle brackets ("Double 2in1") in front of the glazing bead.

The glazing bead on a window is the small frame that holds the window pane and the rubber seal in position. On PVC windows and metal windows, this strip is hollow and can be drilled (also on wooden windows). A window fitter who wants to change a pane of glass will remove these glazing beads in order to access the pane. Glazing beads can be reordered as spare parts.

Yes, you can. Each Schuette® Honeycomb pleated blind for gluing is supplied with four adhesive holders including adhesive plates. To be able to stick pleated blinds and honeycomb pleated blinds, the glazing bead should be at least 18 mm deep. This leaves sufficient space between the glass pane and the pleated blind fabric for air circulation and heat dissipation, which is particularly important for pleated blackout blinds. As a general rule, you should always make sure that the entire adhesive plate is in contact with the window during adhesive installation, as this maximises the adhesive surface and therefore the hold. Although this will not usually be completely possible with bevelled glazing beads due to the slope, pleated blinds can still be glued to bevelled glazing beads if the brackets are positioned correctly. Just make sure that the majority of the adhesive surface touches the window.

We recommend measuring the width slightly differently when installing for gluing and drilling on very slanted glazing beads that widen considerably into the room. As the width ordered corresponds to the actual pleated blind width, more light can shine through at the sides when using the conventional measurement in combination with heavily slanted glazing beads. To minimize this light incidence, the pleated blind should cover both the glass pane and the rubber seal as well as a small part of the slanted glazing bead if the glazing bead is very slanted. If you want to glue or screw the pleated blind into the glazing bead, you can follow the example below: Measure the width at half the depth of the glazing bead and do not subtract anything from it. This width dimension is then the order dimension. Please measure the width at several points on the glazing bead.
