Schuette® blackout curtains - Bring cosiness to any room!

Schuette® curtains can be used on both large and small windows and give rooms a cosy, inviting look. They provide privacy and effectively protect against unwanted light, but that's not all.

Choose the right shade for your home from the many possible colours and use it to create a skilful accent. Colours such as red, black or brown create a warm, cosy atmosphere, while crisp tones such as pink, light green and blue look fresh and modern. Cream, light grey or white are ideal if you want to keep your furniture classic.

Simply draw the curtains so that nobody can see in. Especially in winter, when the evenings are long and dark, you can create more comfort. In addition to the benefits already mentioned, a blackout curtain also absorbs unwanted noise from outside and protects against cold draughts. So you get the benefits of several products in one curtain.

Create a luxurious atmosphere in your home.

The Schuette® curtain from the Millenium Velvet collection does not fade over time, but retains its colour even when exposed to daily sunlight. A cosy atmosphere and inviting style are particularly important in living rooms. In the bedroom, they not only create a cosy atmosphere, but also block out particularly annoying sunlight or disturbing street lighting to ensure deep, undisturbed sleep.

Blackout curtains can therefore provide exactly what you need to create the perfect atmosphere. Bring a little more cosiness into your home and enjoy the luxurious look of curtains. With opaque curtains, your home becomes a place where you feel at ease - and can shut yourself off from the outside world when you feel like it.

  • Our sewing workshop equips Schuette® curtains with metal eyelets with an inner diameter of 4 cm. This allows the curtains to be hung on sturdy curtain poles and curtain rods made of wood, plastic or metal.
  • For the length of curtain poles, we recommend allowing for an overhang of at least 20-30 cm on each side of the window opening. For a 200 cm wide window (or window opening), you should choose a 240-260 cm long rod so that the fabric panels of the curtain hang neatly on the sides and do not interfere.
  • This overhang of the curtain rod at the sides also allows the curtain to achieve optimum blackout performance for the room.
  • We always place an even number of eyelets in the curtain scarf so that hung scarfs look the same next to each other. The overview on the side shows the number of eyelets per curtain width.

An elegant fabric with a warm shimmer.

The heavy velvet fabric in our Millennium Velvet collection has a very solid construction and a lot of heart and craftsmanship has gone into each of our strong seams. The curtains are completely opaque and achieve a high level of light protection and blackout performance.

The Schuette® Millennium Velvet fabric collection includes 19 beautiful, deep and rich colours to fall in love with. Our sophisticated colour tones combined with the luxurious look of the velvet fabric and its warm sheen will enhance any room. The fabric is soft, thick and has a beautiful lustre. It falls very gently and crease-free in even folds and creates an elegant atmosphere.

Thanks to the fabric, a high degree of blackout is achieved. Our curtains darken every room in the house, screen out noise and reduce outside noise (= sound insulation and noise reduction), both in the bedroom and in the living room. They also provide an effective thermal effect and are energy efficient as they reduce the exchange of heat and cold in the window. In summer, they keep the heat out and cool the room. In winter, they keep the heat in the room for longer.  Every Schuette® blackout curtain is subject to strict quality control by our master tailor and is sewn by hand. Especially for you and for your home, because we know what home means. Strong seams, clean edges and even folds are guaranteed.

Easy-care fabric

Schuette® curtains remain beautiful for a long time with regular and proper care. The frequency of cleaning the curtains depends largely on the environmental conditions (smoking, dust content and pollutants in the air).

  • Machine or hand washable (up to 30°C)
  • Wash separately at 30°C on a gentle cycle
  • maximum 50% machine load
  • mild detergent without optical brightener
  • Do not dry clean!
  • Spin at low speed
  • washable roll rings can remain in the curtain
  • Hang up when damp to dry crease-free. Do not tumble dry.
  • Do not iron. Smooth with steam only if absolutely necessary.
  • Dab individual stains with soapy water and rinse thoroughly
  • Do not rub, brush, wring or boil!

Finding the right dimensions - our guide

  • Width = (width to be covered) x 2. Then divide the resulting measurement by the required number of curtains.
  • Height = height from the floor to the curtain pole + 4cm

Example of width: 150 cm x 2 = 300 cm. For two curtain valances 300 : 2 = 150 cm per scarf; for three curtain valances 300 : 3 = 100 cm per scarf, etc.

In the above measuring instructions, the height is always measured in the same way, even for different widths. The curtain extends to the floor. If a different length is preferred and the scarf should not touch the floor, but only reach to the window sill, for example, the height should be measured and specified from the curtain pole to the desired position.

FAQ / Frequently Asked Questions

Schuette® Blackout Curtain with Eyelets ● Millenium Velvet Collection: Carmine (Red) ● 1 piece ● Crease-resistant Easy-care Thermo Opaque & heavily darkening

Are hooks or rings included with the curtains?

Hooks and rings are not included with the multi function curtain tape. These must be ordered separately from another supplier.

How many curtains will I get if I order a quantity of 1?

You will receive one curtain/scarf. The quantity selected is the exact number of curtains you will receive. If you want two curtains for one window, please enter "2" in the quantity field.

Can I also order curtain poles from you?

Curtain poles and other accessories must be ordered from another supplier.

How wide is the curtain tape?

The strap is approximately 10 cm wide or high and can be used with hooks, sliders or rings and has loops to allow a rod to be inserted.

Why is the strap so wide and why are there 3 loops on top of each other? Do you have to use all 3 or is it enough to use just the top loop?

You can attach hooks, sliders or rings to all three loops. Depending on how high you want the top hem to be. A pole can be passed through the middle loops.

Do the curtains come with rods?

Curtain rails and other accessories are not included.

What is the density (g/m2)? I would like to order the thickest curtains, but I can't see any information on the product.

The weight of the Millennium Velvet is 305 g/m2 (tolerance = +/- 5%) and is therefore quite heavy.

Is the fabric thick enough to be used as a windbreak?

Yes, at approximately 300 g/m2 the fabric is heavy enough to be used as a windbreak. However, make sure you order the fabric long enough to lie on the ground and keep out draughts.

Does the fabric reduce reverberation, sound and noise from outside?

Yes, absolutely. The fabric is nice and thick and absorbs noise from outside, improving the acoustics in the room and significantly reducing reverberation and echo in the room.

Can they be hung outside? On a terrace/canopy?

If the curtains are protected from the weather and do not get wet in the rain, they can be hung outside. The fabric is polyester and does not absorb moisture from the air like cotton.

How do I measure correctly?

All measurements always refer to the stretched fabric. For example, if you want to cover a 100 cm wide window with a curtain scarf, it should be 180-200 cm wide so that it can fall in beautiful waves.

How many curtains do I have to take to get a total width of 280 cm?

It looks best if you have an even number of scarves hanging from the window. So 2 or 4 or 6 etc., because then you will have the same amount of fabric hanging to the left and right of the window when the curtain is open. To cover a width of 280 cm and get beautiful, even waves, you should use about 540-560 cm of fabric (= 280 cm x 2 with a border of about 20 cm). Now divide this 540 cm by the number of curtains you want and you have the width of the curtain. For 2 curtains this would be approx. 270 cm per curtain (= 540 cm / 2) and for 4 curtains approx. 135 cm per curtain (= 540 cm / 4).

Can I wash the curtain?

Yes, the curtain can be machine or hand washed. Please use a mild detergent without brightener/bleach and a maximum water temperature of 30°C. The eyelets are made of stainless metal and can also be washed.

Can I put the curtain in the washing machine?

Yes, the curtain can be machine washed on a delicate wash cycle using a maximum water temperature of 30°C and a low spin speed. Please ensure that the curtain is washed separately. The drum should only be half full. The eyelets are made of stainless metal and can also be washed.

Can the curtain be tumble dried?

No, the curtain should not be tumble dried. It should be hung damp to dry without creasing.

Does the curtain look the same at the back as it does at the front?

No, the fabric is smooth on the back and has a fine pile on the front. The curtain is sewn so that the pile runs from top to bottom.

Does the curtain have the same colour at the front and back?

Yes, the colour is the same on the front and back. But the fabric is flat at the back and has a fine pile at the front.

What is the pile direction? What is the pile direction of velvet?

There is a fine pile at the front. The curtain is sewn so that the pile runs from top to bottom. If you stroke it in the opposite direction, the fine pile rises and you can feel the fine, dense and heavy fabric.

I am planning a curtain to keep out the cold or a vestibule for an entrance, passage or corridor. What should I bear in mind?

You should ensure that the curtain is the correct width and height and that the correct number of panels are used. For curtains with eyelets you should allow at least 30% extra width, i.e. 130 cm for a 100 cm wide aisle. For curtains with our multi-functional tunnel tape, you can allow for slightly less material, as these curtains can be stretched more than the eyelet curtains hanging on a curtain rail. When choosing the height, remember that the curtain should rest on the floor to prevent cold air from creating an uncomfortable draught. For a passage or corridor, it is a good idea to use two curtain panels that you can walk through in the middle. This is much more convenient than using a single curtain that has to be constantly opened and closed. For a 100 cm wide hallway, this would mean two curtains with eyelets, each at least 65 cm wide (= 100 cm + 30% = 130 cm / 2 curtains = 65 cm per curtain).

How thick should the curtain rod be for eyelet curtains?

The inside diameter of our eyelets is 40mm. This means that a wide range of curtain rod thicknesses will fit. The diameter of standard curtain rods is often between 16mm and 28mm and all of these diameters will fit. Please note that the larger the diameter of the rod, the less the eyelet can tilt when the curtain is moved. Very large diameters will therefore require more material to cover an area than smaller diameters. We therefore recommend that you choose rods no larger than 30mm in diameter.
